The Zonta Club of Key West is honored to announce that the Zonta Foundation of Key West is a recent recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Edward B. and Joan T. Knight Foundation. This grant will be used to fund college scholarships for young women attending Key West High School and local women pursuing career advancement opportunities at the College of the Florida Keys.
The Zonta Club of Key West awards college scholarships annually by raising money through its Radio Day fundraising campaign. Each year, Zonta’s goal is to award at least $10,000 in local scholarships. In 2026, Zonta provided $17,100 in college scholarships to nine local women.
The Zonta Foundation’s scholarship goals are closely aligned with the mission of the Edward B. and Joan T. Knight Foundation. Both organizations seek to inspire leadership and promote the professional development of local young women in the Key West community. This grant also supports local families by providing financial assistance to help students achieve their educational goals.
The Zonta Club of Key West is a small organization of approximately 20 local women and has limited financial resources, making fundraising a challenge. “The generosity of the Edward B. and Joan T. Knight Foundation is a blessing to Zonta and the Key West community. Their wonderful gift will ensure that the Zonta Club of Key West can continue funding scholarships for the upcoming 2026–2027 academic year,” said Zonta President Mechelle Burgohy.
The Zonta Club of Key West was chartered in 1981 and is part of a global service organization of executives in business and the professions, with more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs operating in 68 countries and geographic areas. Together, members work locally and globally to improve the legal, political, economic, health, educational, and professional status of women; promote justice and universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms; and advance understanding, goodwill, and peace through worldwide fellowship.
