Orange the World for 16 Days of Activism

Zonta Club of Key West ‘went Orange’ this weekend.  The Key West chapter of the international organization decked out palms along North Roosevelt Blvd, Key West, on Sunday November 24th to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25th.  “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape,” is this year’s theme.  This anti-violence campaign, also known as “Zonta Says No,” is supported by Zonta Club of Key West, the United Nations, Zonta International, and other organizations.  “Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women” is Zonta’s global campaign to get more people to not look away, but to speak up and take action.

The 16 Days of Activism begins November 25 and ends December 10, International Human Rights Day.  Residents and visitors of Key West, alike, are encouraged to support the work by wearing orange during the 16 days.  Zonta Club of Key West, along with its sister chapters, is striving to raise awareness and promote open discussions to help end violence against women and eliminate the detrimental consequences this violence has on the well-being of our community, including women, partners, children – One Family. Through a multitude of events, projects and advocacy efforts, Zonta clubs and members around the world are dedicated to ending gender-based violence.

On November 6, the City of Key West Commission presented a proclamation to Zonta Club of Key West in recognition of 16 Days of Activism, permitting the display of the orange ribbons along N. Roosevelt until December 10.  For more information, visit www.facebook.com/zontakw.
